Wow Sushi

Overview

Wow Sushi, a popular fast-food restaurant specializing in Japanese cuisine, sought to establish an online presence for seamless product ordering and home delivery. The goal was to create a dynamic website that would efficiently manage both customers and products, providing a user-friendly platform that supports quick and reliable delivery.

Located in Ukraine, Wow Sushi caters to a large customer base that enjoys fresh, high-quality sushi. To meet this demand, I developed a fully functional website utilizing MySQL for database management and Next.js for both the frontend and backend. This platform not only supports user registration but also offers comprehensive tools for managing product categories, inventories, and promotional content.

Technical Implementation

I optimized the website for speed and reliability by deploying custom Nginx settings and leveraging caching techniques. This configuration ensures optimal performance, even during peak traffic periods. Additionally, I focused on SEO improvements to enhance the site’s visibility and search engine rankings, contributing to an improved user experience.

The project’s backend is built on Next.js, enabling both server-side rendering and API routes, while the database is managed with MySQL to maintain a robust and scalable product catalog. Customers can easily browse through the menu, select their desired items, and proceed with secure checkout, all within a seamless experience.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the challenges I faced during the development of the website was handling incomplete orders and payment failures. Users occasionally add items to their cart but fail to complete the purchase, or payment systems might malfunction during transactions. To resolve this, I implemented tracking mechanisms that allow the client to identify and analyze any order attempts that were interrupted, ensuring that such issues are addressed promptly.

Furthermore, I focused on providing flexibility in managing orders. The platform allows customers to place orders for specific time slots and submit special requests, such as dietary restrictions or customizations. This required extensive work with the database and user interface to ensure a smooth and tailored ordering experience.

Project Goals & Features

The primary objective was to create a platform that empowers Wow Sushi’s management team to easily update products, adjust prices, and customize the menu. I integrated an intuitive admin panel where managers can quickly add new items, modify existing ones, or create promotional content, such as slides for current discounts or advertising campaigns.

Additionally, the website includes advanced features like payment system flexibility. The client required the ability to toggle between different payment providers, depending on their needs or customer preferences. To streamline this process, I developed payment templates, which allow for quick switching between payment systems without requiring extensive backend changes.

Client Support & Ongoing Maintenance

One of the key requests from the client was the ability to temporarily disable parts of the website, such as specific categories or promotional offers, during updates. I built this functionality to allow Wow Sushi’s team to maintain full control over the site’s content without any downtime.

The final product also includes a highly customizable promotions system, which automatically updates the homepage with slides for new deals or seasonal offers. The website is designed to be easily updatable, ensuring that Wow Sushi’s online presence remains fresh and engaging for its customers.
